Initial/Recurring Training for X-Ray Operations
The OTS module "Initial/Recurring Training for X-Ray Operations" is a newly developed X-ray simulator used for initial and recurrent X-ray image evaluation training for staff at security checkpoints. This simulator can be used for all checkpoints at which access control takes place (power plants, industrial companies, courts etc.).
Using this simulator, screeners‘ skills are intensively enhanced to quickly and reliably detect threat items carried by persons other than passengers and other items which they carry with them, which is essential in order to increase overall security.
At the beginning of the course the security staff is confronted with everyday image material which is customary in their field of work in a series of information learning units. Here the daily routine at the checkpoint is simulated. The screener has to make the decision whether there is a forbidden object in the image or an object that requires special permission.
For effective use of this simulator a basic knowledge of X-ray evaluation is required such as the usage of the available image enhancement functions, legal aspects as well as the detection of weapons and bombs, especially the composition of an IED.
The OTS module "Initial/Recurring Training for X-Ray Operations" contains various information and exercise learning units. The exercise learning units contain 8 different learning units, each with 4 different exercises.
Here, basic knowledge of the four key subjects (objects that require special permission, electronic devices, IEDs, weapons and manipulation) is presented. The information learning units are not time-controlled, each image can be evaluated by the screeners for as long as necessary before going to the next image.
EXERCISE LEARNING UNITS
This part contains the learning units 1-8 which are composed of one marking and three alerting units.
The goal of the marking learning unit is that the screener has to correctly mark the objects given by the training software within a time frame of 40 seconds. Generally these objects are composed of organic material and fairly small and therefore hard to detect.
The goal of the alarm learning units is to confront screeners with their daily procedures. The training software presents an image and the screener has to make the decision whether there is a forbidden object in the image or an object that requires special permission. For this evaluation the screener has a time frame of 40 seconds.
At the end of the 8th learning unit a test is conducted to control the learning progress.
